Itinerary
Day 1 – Begin Your Week Among Glasgow’s Streets
Madainn mhath! You’ll arrive in Glasgow, where bold street murals sit beside grand Victorian buildings and the hum of conversation slips through open pub doors. After checking in, you can head out on your own, following the city streets. Later, you’ll meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers, sharing first smiles and growing anticipation for the week ahead. With the evening free, you might find a welcoming pub, feel the cool glass of a Scotch whisky in your hand and its gentle warmth on your tongue before stepping back into the Glasgow night.
Day 2 – Explore Glasgow’s Industrial Heart and Heritage
You’ll begin at Glasgow Cathedral, looking up at carved arches cut into weathered stone, then cross the broad paving of George Square beneath the gaze of its bronze statues. Your orientation continues past the People’s Palace and the glass-roofed Winter Gardens, their elegant lines catching the eye as the city unfolds. Beside the River Clyde, you trace more than 200 years of shipbuilding history, imagining the sharp ring of hammer on steel along the water.
Day 3 – Glasgow to Glencoe and the Highlands
With Glasgow behind you, the road runs north to Loch Lomond, its broad water stretching between wooded slopes. On an Optional Experience, you can cruise towards Rob Roy’s cave, listening to the water brush against the boat as the shoreline slips by. Through the Glen of Weeping, Glencoe narrows beneath volcanic ridges and steep-sided mountains, and you pause to remember the MacDonald clansmen killed here in 1692. Beyond Fort William, the bronze figures of the Commando Memorial face the Ben Nevis range. At your Highland hotel, you’ll sit down to dinner after a day spent between open water and mountain walls.
Day 4 – Trace Highland History from Culloden to Skye
At Culloden, you’ll follow the path between weathered clan stones, their names cut deep into granite across the wide moor where the final battle of the Jacobite rising was fought in 1746. Loch Ness follows, its dark water disappearing between steep banks as you watch the surface, half hoping for one unexplained ripple. At Eilean Donan, an arched stone bridge crosses the tidal water to castle walls mirrored below. Continue over the sea to Skye, where jagged ridges and silver-blue lochs accompany your lunch stop before the road leads back through the Highlands. Dinner awaits at your hotel.
Day 5 – Highlands to Edinburgh: Pitlochry and St Andrews
With the River Tummel curling past Pitlochry, you explore a town long linked to salmon fishing, the water slipping between wooded banks beside you. You may choose an Optional Experience to Blair Castle, home of the Duke of Atholl and Europe’s last remaining private army. At St Andrews, see the famous 18th green, where close-cut turf runs towards the pale stone clubhouse and the North Sea beyond. The road ends in Edinburgh, with centuries-old stone climbing towards the castle as the murmur of the modern capital fills the streets below. On selected departures, your included tickets to The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo place you beneath the castle walls, where pipes lift into the evening and drums echo through the night.
Day 6 – Explore Edinburgh from Holyroodhouse to Castle
Guided by your Local Specialist, you’ll travel through Edinburgh, from the graceful crescents and black iron balconies of the Georgian New Town to the royal gates of the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Along the Royal Mile, tall tenements press close around narrow wynds, carved lintels darken above old doorways and the warm scent of malt may drift from a whisky shop. Edinburgh Castle waits high on its volcanic rock, its battlements etched against the sky. Later, Auld Reekie is yours to explore, or you can choose an Optional Experience inside the castle, passing beneath the portcullis into cool stone chambers before looking out across a sweep of spires, chimney pots and slate roofs.
Day 7 – Say Farewell in Edinburgh
Over breakfast, you savour warm tattie scones with all the trimmings, one last taste of Scotland before the journey home. Then it’s time to say a fond farewell to the friends who have shared the week with you. The lochs, castles and Highland roads may be behind you, but the memories will travel home with you.
